NAGPUR: An offence was finally registered on Friday against the former principal of a school in Katol and her husband for tampering with the documents of ex-teacher Amit Jadhav who died in an accident at Kalmeshwar in March. However, the loss the Jadhav family from New Panvel suffered cannot be compensated for.
Hina Zaveri, the then principal of Arvind Indo Public School, Katol and her husband Manik Ghosh had changed Amit's surname to Zaveri in various documents in the hospital after he met with an accident and also during the post-mortem.

Zaveri had introduced herself before the government officials as Amit's sister. She had also tried to change Amit's surname in the school records. As the controversy surrounding the surname of Amit came to the fore, the school authorities decided to accept Zaveri's resignation. The couple is now facing the charges of forgery.
Police said that Zaveri and Ghosh had knowingly furnished misleading information regarding Amit to government officials and also changed his name in the school documents. "We are trying to arrest the couple now," said a senior official from the rural police. He added, "The information revealed to police was also not convincing." The local crime branch was conducting probe along with Kalmeshwar police. The offence was registered at Katol police station as the school was located there.
Amit's father Rajendra said Zaveri had advised Amit to complete his management studies from Nagpur. Amit was working at a call centre in Panvel. Amit and Zaveri got introduced to each other after she contacted the call centre to correct a technical problem of her cell phone. After that, Amit came to Nagpur. His father said that "We had come to Nagpur on several occasions between June and August last year to take Amit back, but returned without success."
Amit was working as a computer teacher at the Katol school. He had joined the school in November last year, but resigned in January. He went on leave, citing mother's death as the reason. He did not return to the school though sources in Katol's school said Amit would be spotted even after he had resigned.
Amit's parents were not informed about his accident. Zaveri, Ghosh and others cremated him at Nagpur. The parents were still kept in the dark. Zaveri told police that she thought that Amit was an orphan and cremated him on the grounds of humanity. Police were surprised after they came to know that Zaveri had distributed Amit's belongings to orphans and needy after getting them from the room where he stayed. Police said that even Amit's documents were given away.
